These incredible pieces of fibre art are wonderfully created with pieces of fabric and stitches. Kathryn is an incredibly talented fine art artist who uses fabric as many artists would use a paint pallet and her sewing machine becomes her pen and brush.
Kathryn’s work depicts a wonderful connection to her chosen subject, which she renders in an original drawing, that is then layered under her pallet of fibres. Nature, both human and feathered & feline & flowering her subjects and range of talent is incredible.
These pieces form part of her POSTCARD series and focus on flora and fauna from Australia and Africa.
These pieces feature the
Koala - Cute as a button, this koala smiles the most alluring smile, free from all the worlds troubles, his great textured coat has hints of pale blue and mauve.
Swift Parrot - or green parrot, this cheeky noisy, entertaining character is hanging upside down enjoying a delicious feast of blooms in a Eucalyptus tree. He has caught you looking at him and wonders if you want to share his afternoon snack.
Melba Finch - A beautiful finch, the Melba finch is snuggled on his branch with his feathers fluffed out. Totally relaxed while looking at the world around him.
Magpie - an Aussie backyard favourite they warble and converse while strutting around the yard looking for titbits. This one is sitting upon his perch looking for opportunities that may arise.
Golden Wattle - The soft delicate blooms on this Australian native look like feathery snowballs. Delicate and detailed this rendering of them is just divine. SOLD
Each postcard is "stamped" with features of Kathryn's work. They measure approximately 10.5 x 12 inches and are framed or ready for framing.
Signed in stitch, this postcard features the common name, Latin name and Kathryn's personal mark.
The images are approx 8” in height The Postcards have been created on natural cotton canvas which has been drawn on, then painted with a watercolour background layer. Finally fabrics have been layered and then the image has been sensitively stitched, bringing it to life. Kathryn loves the fabric to talk to the viewer and she loves the soft frayed edges that give life to the piece. The canvas work is mounted on a double layer of beautiful Shwe Shwe. A fabric unique to Africa.
A sample of progress shots show her step by step creation for a similar art piece. Can be see in the other Etsy listing featuring the Australian Rosella.
